***NEW*** Inverted Jump Qualifications for Moguls/Dual Moguls

NEW ON SNOW JUMP QUALIFICATION F.A.Q.

Who needs to qualify jumps on snow?

Per new rule 3070.5 anyone who has qualified on water after May 2008 and is planning to do inverted jumps (not off axis) in mogul or dual mogul competition. If you qualified a jump in water prior to May 2008 you are not required to do the on snow qualification, but you can if you want to. Also, if your qualification is revoked by a TD at an event, you will be required to go through the complete qualifying process to regain it.

Do I still need to qualify in water?

Yes – you must first have a water qualification, then you can attempt an on snow qualification. You can practice on snow with the water qualification, but you cannot compete the inverted jump until it is qualified on snow.

Does my coach need to be a Level 3 to qualify me on snow?

No - your coach will not be qualifying you on snow. You will need to attend a special qualification day at designated events and a qualifier assigned by USSA will qualify you. Your Level 2 coach will still qualify you in water using the same procedure that has been in place for many years. You must bring that qualification sheet to the on snow qualifying day before you will be allowed to attempt to qualify on snow.  No sheet, no qualifying.

When are the qualification days?

USSA will provide an opportunity for each division to qualify jumps. The dates are posted below on this page. There will definitely be qualifying days at the US Selection event, Junior Olympics and US Championships in addition to the divisional days.

Will I need to qualify on a mogul jump?

Yes - you will be qualifying on a mogul course with a standard mogul jump. You will be required to perform 5 jumps, for two (2) jumps you need to ski six (6) moguls and then jump, for three (3) jumps you will begin from a starting position just above the jump.

Will it cost money to qualify?

Yes – There will be a $50 charge per qualifying jump regardless if you pass or fail.  Money will NOT be collected on site.  You must register with USSA by each deadline.

If I fail the first time when can I try again?

There is no limit as to how many times or how often you attempt to qualify.  However, you still need to pay each time regardless if you pass or fail.

Who will keep track of the qualifications?

There will be a record of your qualification kept with USSA, but it is always a good idea to keep a copy of your qualification forms on hand should you need to verify that you are qualified.
